Serving in Worship
at St. Peter's Episcopal Church

In the Episcopal tradition, we believe that worship is the collective effort of the people. At St. Peter's, we warmly invite and encourage our parishioners to participate in the many roles that ensure the richness of our worship services. Whether you have a passion for liturgy, a desire to serve, or simply want to be more involved, there are opportunities for everyone to contribute to worship at St. Peter’s.

  • Acolytes

Acolytes are trained to carry crosses and torches in procession, and to assist with the offertory and serve at the altar at our 11:00 a.m. service. Younger children assist at our 9:00 a.m. service by carrying the small processional cross.

  • Altar Guild

The Altar Guild plays a crucial role in maintaining our sacred space. Altar Guild teams care for the linens and vessels used in worship, and set up for and clean up after services.

  • Choir

Excellent choral music plays an integral role in our 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. services. Our Parish Choir, comprising adults and older youth, rehearses on Wednesday evenings and sings on Sunday mornings at 9:00 and/or 11:00 a.m. Our Junior Choir (2nd-6th grades) rehearses on Wednesday afternoons and sings several times throughout the year at our 9:00 a.m. service.

  • Flower Guild

Our Flower Guild teams help ensure the beauty of our space by creating and caring for the arrangements behind the altar and in the narthex, as well as those in various spots around our campus.

  • Lay Eucharistic Ministers

LEMs participate in worship by reading the Prayers of the People, administering the chalice during Communion, and assisting the celebrant as needed.

  • Lay Eucharistic Visitors

Our LEVs are sent from our 11:00 a.m. service with consecrated elements twice a month in order to share Communion with our homebound parishioners.

  • Lectors

Lectors bring the scriptures to life by reading lessons from the Old and New Testaments at all three morning services. If you have a passion for sharing the Word, consider joining our team of lectors.

  • Ushers

Ushers play a vital role in welcoming worshippers. They also distribute service bulletins, assist the congregation during communion, tidy up the nave after services, and manage the offering at the 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services.

Serving in worship is a fulfilling way to engage with St. Peter's, and to deepen your connection to God. Your participation is both a meaningful contribution to the shared life of our faith community, and an offering of time and talent to God.
